Run For The Dogs
RUN Singapore|August/September 2018

These runners do it to support the welfare of rescue dogs.

Run For The Dogs

There are a few animal shelters in Singapore, including Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS) and Madam Wong’s Shelter (MWS), that house rescue dogs that are either abandoned or rescued strays and look after them. A group of runners have banded together to ensure that they have enough to be well-fed and happy in their shelters, until re-homed.

‘I Run for Rescue Dogs’ was started by former Public Relations professional turned dog behaviorist Marie Choo, and she has since been joined by many other runners to raise funds for food and daily necessities to keep the dogs happy. With practically no commercial interests, these non-profit animal shelters get by largely with the help of other animal lovers. We talk to some of them about their passion for helping animals.

ALEX ANG

My life is an oxymoronic combination of interests. I am a specialist in technology and investment consulting by day and a couch potato by night. What little time I have outside of my commitments, I try to be out there spending some alone time with nature. I’ve dedicated my Ultra Trail Mount Fuji to running for rescue dogs. The 100-mile route was a good race to kick off my fundraising efforts.

The donations that come through me go to MWS, OSCAS, and also Uncle Khoe’s K9 shelters. I aim to spread awareness and raise enough for the shelters to feed the dogs in their care and also to pay for some of the infrastructure needed at their new premises in Sungei Tengah. The shelters were recently relocated when their old premises at Pasir Ris were reclaimed by the government.
