Winning On Both Fronts

Being employed at the Singaporean branch of Deloitte, one of the biggest accounting organisations in the world, must be quite a unique experience. Not because of the sheer size of the company, but because of the large number of athletes working at the Singapore office.

The firm is a spexBusiness network partner of Sport Singapore, and also has its own Deloitte Ignite program that offers flexible internship and employment opportunities for the country’s top level athletes.

Unsurprisingly, it is one of the biggest supporters of the annual JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, and this year there were 500 entrants from Deloitte running at the event. The Men’s and Women’s categories were won by Melvin Wong and Jasmine Teo, both who are working at Deloitte! Melvin Wong is an Account Manager, and he tells us,

“The JP Morgan Corporate Challenge has always been one of the events that I would take part in annually. It’s just an event that I really enjoy racing in. On my own, I typically train six days a week with one rest day. It’s a standard routine of mine.”

36-year-old Melvin was part of Team Singapore at the 2015 SEA Games, competing in middle distance racing. He considers the 5000m event his favourite, which is why he enjoys the challenge of the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge’s 5.6km race distance. He was also active on the triathlon circuit in Singapore, and these days continues to pursue his love for an active lifestyle.

He starts his days early, and has his running shoes on his feet before sunrise.
