Models trod through pink sand at the Paris premiere of Dior’s Summer 2020 Collection. As Englishman Kim Jones – Dior Homme’s Artistic Director – sought to revisit iconic moments of the brand’s past while focusing on the future, the collaboration with American contemporary artist Daniel Arsham transformed the runway space into a pinked-out, post-apocalyptic landscape studded with debris.
The brand’s logo, a replica of Christian Dior’s telephone, a Dior clock, branded basketball and Christian Dior’s 1951 book Je Suis Couturier were all cast in white and given the eroded treatment to look like relics from an archaeological site.
The narrative is especially pertinent for the French haute couture maison, a living, breathing monument that houses contemporary designers who propel Dior’s storied past into the present while looking ahead.
And with the Summer 2020 men’s collection imagined as a poetic journey through the sands of time, travel is a key theme – and for Dior, the best luggage for any adventure is represented by Rimowa.
BROTHER BRANDS
The two brands have collaborated on a distinctive capsule collection featuring suitcases, hand luggage, clutches worn as sling bags and even a champagne case, all designed to withstand the passage of time, in terms of style and practicality.
The collaboration between the two brands is a natural one. Aside from having the same parent company, LVMH, they constantly pursue the reimagining and bettering of their well-loved icons, grounded by decades of history.
