Cambodia
Cambodia is possible the cheapest country in Southeast Asia to visit. With stunning scenic views, beautiful art, flavoursome food, marvellous architecture and a rich history, the country lays fair claim to a plethora of things as a tourist destination. Some of Cambodia’s iconic places to visit include the ancient Khmer temples and the museums and palaces at Phnom Penh that will not weigh heavy on your pocket, yet fill your touring days with haunting memories.
There will be days of riding bicycle in a village tour, staying in a hostel and eating meat skewers in roadside stalls that will give you a perfectly local feel. A 3 day pass to Angkor Wat will be some of the one-off expenses in an otherwise budget vacation.
Romania
Not to use a cliché, Romania is one of Europe’s hidden gem and a truly budget destination to visit. With very few tourists, amazing landscapes, delectable fare and a number of breathtaking things to see, the country offers something beyond the stereotypical vampire myths and legends of Transylvania. This region of Romania is known for impressive castles and idyllic villages that will certainly make you stop for a while.
Explore Romania’s wilderness on foot because that’s best how you can get to know the country and its soul. Just like any other place, if you visit Romania during the low season (September through June), and book your accommodation and flight tickets well in advance, it will be really a great trip on budget.
