In the second installment of our series on restaurants going above and beyond the call of duty, we talk to the founders of Gurugram’s favourite Goan restaurant, Bernardo’s, about how their eatery is helping them pursue their passion for animal welfare.

With its fantastic homely food, unassuming interiors, and music that transports one to the streets and homes of Goa, Bernardo’s has been answering Gurugram’s call for authentic Goan cuisine ever since it opened its doors in 2004. Founded by the warm Chrys and Cres Fernandes, not only has the restaurant been awarded several times (The Miele Guide’s Top 500 Restaurants in Asia, being one), but enjoys a loyal clientele that has followed them each of the eight times they moved locations. “More than anything else, people love the authenticity. We haven’t altered our recipes to suit the palate here, and you are served exactly what you would get to eat in any household in Goa,” says Cres, who as the head chef, innovates as well as prepares heirloom family recipes.
