If you’re short on gym time and serious about burning calories, there is a way to drop the kilos at work or at home simply by mastering these “invisible exercises”.
Most of us have the best intentions when embarking on a fitness regime. We’ve got our gym sessions mapped out, have our Fitbits at the ready and have our personal trainers pencilled in. And then life kind of gets in the way.
However, just because your days may be mostly filled with desk time doesn’t mean your fitness campaign should grind to a halt. You can still burn calories, flatten your abs and transform your posture whilst going about your daily life according to Australia’s leading posture expert Dell-Maree Day.
The Sydney-based former Pilates teacher is the creator of a new ground-breaking online program called The Invisible Exercise (TIE). Over a course of 10 weeks, the posture training course shows you how to activate all 639 muscles inside you by mastering 10 key postures that will realign your body.
The everyday postures can pretty much be done anywhere, anytime – when you’re at your computer, when you’re waiting for a bus and even when you’re at home watching TV.
“Whilst it may look like you’re not doing much, and any exercise is ‘invisible’, your body is actually burning serious calories in stillness as it stretches and retrains itself, placing muscles correctly onto bones as it forms new muscle memories,” explains DellMaree. “This results in better posture, better muscle tone and a slimmer appearance.”
Dell-Maree says people often put a lot of effort into working out in traditional ways but then let their body slacken for the rest of the day. This, she says, is a wasted opportunity when you could be burning more calories. "In my experience, it’s rare that many of your muscles are working correctly, even if you’re fit. Plus, there are all sorts of muscles in your body which never get any kind of real stimulation. That means for most people, hundreds of their muscles are lying dormant.”
