Honey creates supreme buzz

THE breeding from a Kent-based Welsh cob stud rocked in-hand ranks, with their stock winning top titles including the Welsh supreme and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in-hand semi-final ticket.

Daniel Copley’s extravagant mover Danaway Honey BooBoo (Honey) didn’t miss a beat all day as she impressed multiple judges on each appearance in the ring. She was shown with her Pennal Brynmor-sired filly, Tirffal Honeysuckle, at foot.

Honey, an 11-year-old Danaway Tango daughter, won the broodmare title en route to the overall Welsh section D spoils, which, impressively, she took ahead of another from the Danaway prefix. This was the stud’s own three-year-old filly Danaway Gwenogwen who had led the breed’s youngstock field. Daniel bought Honey from

Danaway as a foal, she been a consistent broodmare over the years. She has enjoyed show ring glory from minimal outings, including in 2018 when she won the broodmare class at the Royal Welsh and here at the National Welsh Championships.

Her latest daughter Honeysuckle was also second and reserve champion at this year’s Royal Welsh.

Judge Michael Gates from Cherrington, Australia awarded Honey the semi-final pass:

“She was a lovely bodied mare with clean bone and feather, and was full of Welsh character,” he said. “She commanded my eye from the moment she entered the ring. I’m a ridden person, and I believed she’d as easily carry a saddle at top level. On the day, she was fresh and shown very well in-hand too.”

Danaway was back in the ribbons in the national Welsh in-hand championships, and leading the Welsh section D final was Maxine and Mark Ingham’s mare Danaway Helen Of Troy.

“DREAM PONY” TO MAKE HIS HOYS DEBUT
