One moment JLR - the British manufacturer's new name - proudly announces it is getting rid of the brand name Land Rover, and days later the company's subsidiary just as proudly introduces a special edition of its old Land Rover Defender.
For the umpteenth time a special edition of the old Defender is unveiled - again with a heritage theme - and this time it is called the Land Rover Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition. The vehicle is a tribute to Spencer Wilks, former director of the Rover Car Company and co-founder of Land Rover, and also the Isle of Islay, where the Land Rover name was born.
Islay is the fifth largest Scottish island and also the southernmost of the Inner Hebrides. Islay has just over a thousand full-time residents and the main industry is the distilling of malt whisky.
