The TV host, 49, who also has a show on Classic FM, features in André Rieu’s Maastricht Concert: Power of Love, interviewing the popular Dutch violinist and conductor backstage during the new film.
Here, Charlotte – who has nine-year-old daughter Ella-Rose with husband Mark Herbert – tells us about her lifelong love of classical music and how her little girl is following in her footsteps. “She is a bit of a mini-me,” the presenter says.
Charlotte, tell us about the new film…
“This is the 13th year that I’ve worked with André and I feel so lucky to be involved. I get to interview him the minute he steps off stage.
“André always makes such an effort to mix things up. Yes, it’s classical music, but it’s done in a way that reaches out to people. He’s a great showman, so he brings it to life. This one focuses on the big, beautiful pieces of music we all know.”
What is your friendship with André like?
“It’s really good. I was always an admirer of his, but it’s fascinating to see how he works. You feel like part of an extended family.
“Anyone of any age will recognise this music. He breathes new life into it even for people who think: ‘Oh, I don’t know if classical music is my thing.’ That’s why his concerts out-sell Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran.”
When did you discover your passion for classical music?
