Shouldering the burden of official duties as both his father the King and wife the Princess of Wales dealt with cancer diagnoses, Prince William had the tricky job of striking a balance between his public and private lives, keeping the institution and his own young family on track.
He did it with strength and grace, seen in the many photographs of him engaging with presidents and pensioners, celebrities and schoolchildren.
