And as the presenters return with a second series of The Finish Line, their witty banter shows why they are the perfect pair to host the BBC1 quiz show.
In fact, it’s partly thanks to Sarah and the late George Michael that 31-year-old Roman – the son of Martin and Shirlie Kemp – is here.
Sarah recalls the couple’s first encounter on Saturday Superstore, the children’s BBC series she cohosted in the 1980s.
“Martin and Shirlie happened to meet in the studio,” she recalls. “It was a Christmas show, and every major band was on, including their bands, Spandau Ballet and Wham!.
“So, I like to think I was there when their eyes met. George then stepped in and did his introduction; the next thing you know, Roman’s on the scene!
“Roman’s lovely,” she continues. “I feel as though I’ve known him for ever. My challenge is to make him laugh when he reads out questions, and I have many different nicknames for him.”
BACK IN THE SADDLE
Returning to a studio has been a challenge for Sarah, who also cohosted Going Live! with Phillip Schofield and Blue Peter.
