In recent years she has become almost as synonymous with showcasing fashion house creations as her own powerhouse vocals. So it’s little wonder that the chance to combine the two by performing at Elie Saab’s Arabian Nights-inspired fashion presentation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was a “dream come true” for Celine Dion.
Wearing a sparking Elie Saab gown and trailing sequinned cape, the singer performed her classic ballad The Power of Love before closing the show with 2002’s I’m Alive, which earnt her a standing ovation and grateful kisses from the Lebanese designer.
The show was opened by Hollywood star Halle Berry, in the Elie Saab gown she wore in 2002 when she was the first black woman to win a Best Actress Oscar.
Then Jennifer Lopez entered the room on a floating stage to perform a rendition of her hits Waiting for Tonight, On the Floor and Let’s Get Loud. Fittingly, given the recent demise of her fourth marriage to Ben Affleck, Jennifer – dressed in a dramatic silver sequinned bodysuit draped in fringing – also sang a cover version of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. She was assisted by a troupe of male dancers performing a series of energetic moves including an assisted backflip.
