In an Instagram world, it’s safe to say that right now the pursuit of perfection has never been more prominent among women.
Hourglass, size 0, big boobs, small boobs, big bum, small waist… the list goes on. And for some, the struggle for body confidence means going to extreme lengths to keep up with changing trends of how a “perfect” woman should look – even if those role models are distorted and heavily filtered.
But Ex On The Beach and Celebrity Big Brother star Chloe Goodman has warned of the dangers of plastic surgery, particularly cheaper procedures undertaken abroad or given in return or social media exposure.
In a world where the idea of catching a flight for a nip and tuck is becoming as normalised as heading to the hairdressers for a blow-dry, the 29-year-old tells new she will regret having had vaser liposuction in 2017 for the rest of her life.
Left with skin mottling and fibrosis after the operation, the experience hit her confidence and she has since been told by a UK specialist that too much fat was removed during the procedure, which she had abroad.
Chloe says the pressures of fame and a “bad break-up” had prompted her to jet off to the clinic on a whim.
“It was the break-up. It was the low self-esteem, which I don’t usually suffer from,” she says. “Even though I was a size eight, people online would call me ‘skinny fat’. I was skinny, but had little pockets of fat, that even if I exercised I couldn’t really shift. I did it more to sculpt my body than to lose weight. It was an insecurity of mine anyway, which was made worse by being on TV and by a bad relationship where my partner loved that model-type look. I was offered it and took it without really thinking.”
