Last week, the Duchess of Sussex finally launched the first episode of her long-awaited Spotify podcast in which she promises to be “unfiltered” and totally “herself”. She told fans prior to the release, “People should expect the real me in this and probably the me that they’ve never gotten to know.”
And though the hour-long episode didn’t contain the kind of bombshell revelations Meghan and her husband Prince Harry brought us during their interview with US chat-show host Oprah Winfrey, it still offered a fascinating insight into the couple’s lives.
For the first episode of Archetypes, Meghan was joined by her pal, retired tennis sensation Serena Williams – and Harry, 37, made a surprise appearance, too!
In the episode titled The Misconception Of Ambition, Meghan speaks about the consequences of being an ambitious woman and how marrying into the royal family has affected that perception. “I don’t remember ever personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambitious until I started dating my now husband,” says Meghan, 41, who also touches on “the double standards women face”.
“Apparently, ambition is a terrible, terrible thing for a woman, that is according to some.” She adds, “Since I’ve felt the negativity behind it, it’s really hard to un-feel it. I can’t un-see it, either, in the millions of girls and women who make themselves smaller – so much smaller – on a regular basis.”
