“Tracy and Gregory are trapped together in an elevator to go up to the restaurant,” sets up Gregory Harrison (Gregory). “She gets stood up by the person who was going to meet her and Gregory is there by himself. So, he’s standing there and all of a sudden, he just says [to the hostess], ‘Table for two.’ She can’t believe it and she tries to decline and he says, ‘Come on, let’s call a truce.’ They sit down together, kind of begrudgingly, and Gregory’s charms work a little bit on her. Not a lot, but a little bit, so that at least they have a conversation and learn a little more about each other. It was really interesting and fun to play with Jane [Elliot, Tracy].”
But when it comes time to settle the bill and Gregory reaches for his wallet, Tracy notices his hand trembling. Gregory, who has yet to disclose his ALS diagnosis to anyone other than Alexis, doesn’t pick up on her moment of observation. Explains Harrison, “He’s so flustered by [his symptoms]. He is very much in denial. He knows what’s going on with him and he has accepted it, but he wants to keep it a secret. So Gregory makes his exit very abruptly at that point and doesn’t really notice whether she caught on to it or not.”
He soon learns that she did, because Tracy promptly places a call to Alexis. “He finds out immediately that she’s stuck her nose in his business,” the actor says.
