Much like their on-screen counterparts, Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl’s real-life relationship has had its fair share of drama. So when the former Grey’s Anatomy co-stars recently reunited to talk about the old days – both the good and bad – it was always going to be epic.

The actresses got together for a chat this month for Variety magazine’s Actors on Actors series, 13 years after Heigl quit the hit medical drama. And nothing was off limits, from navigating motherhood to Heigl’s controversial mid-season departure.

“I was so naive,” Heigl told Pompeo of her abrupt 2010 exit from the show. “I got on my soapbox and I had some things to say, and I felt really passionate about this stuff ... I felt so strongly that I also got a megaphone out on my soapbox. There was no part of me that imagined a bad reaction.”
