IN BRIEF
An ArcoLinuxbased desktop distro that's been tweaked to present a customisable Arch installation. It uses a combination of tools from the ArcoLinux project, together with its own to enable users to experience the dexterity of Arch Linux inside a user-friendly façade. The project doesn't share system requirements, but as per our tests it'll run on any 64-bit computer with 4GB RAM and about 20GB of disk space.
AmOs is a new distro that's based on ArcoLinux, which itself has only been around for just over five years. ArcoLinux is pitched as a platform to learn Linux the Arch way. Its developer has broken up the Linux learning process into six phases and the various ArcoLinux distros are part of those phrases. The final phase of the learning process calls for the creation of your own custom distro.
AmOs is one such derivative. Its sole developer has done a nice job of utilising the tools at his disposal to create a desktop-friendly Arch distro. AmOs uses a heavily customised Xfce desktop. One of its major attractions are the dozens of themes that you select with a single click.
