Fashionable food

no matter how exhausted we are, what hour it is, how long the queue is or whether it's pouring with rain, we can get amped for the newest, hippest cuisine or snack.

The food craze has gone further than just getting your hands on the best tacos in town or that new limited-edition brew at Starbucks, just so you can post an aesthetically pleasing Instagram post with the hashtag #Foodie. People don't just want the joy of consuming food, they want to dress in it (though not the way Lady Gaga wore her meat dress at the 2010 VMAs!).

American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Dr Gail Saltz notes that access to or a taste of something that's difficult to attain gives us a sense of bragging rights that can enhance our sense of self and ego. "When you are envied, your self-worth feels improved," she says. Further, 'mob psychology' explains this notion of wanting to be part of the craze or hype, since being a fan of a trend or a member of a fandom can give us a sense of belonging

Nevertheless, food is fashionable! So why not have the glorious experience of eating a perfectly crafted taco, and wearing that 'Keep Calm and Taco On' T-shirt while you're at it?
