Flowers have long been a symbol of love and affection, but because bouquet is only beautiful for as long as its flowers are in bloom, its ephemeral nature means it is something only to be enjoyed in the moment. It's no wonder then that jewellers have taken a special interest in translating that fleeting beauty into something lasting, freezing flowers forever in the form of brooches, necklaces, earrings and rings.
Capturing the details on the petals, the movement of the stamen and the delicate liveliness of a flower's natural colours is not easy though, but something that jewellery designers have strived to do since at least the 1830s. Since then, floral motifs and creations have grown even more popular and complex - with improvements in technology allowing for the creation of life-like pieces that look freshly-plucked.
For the storied jewellery house Tiffany & Co. the theme of "Botanica" for Blue Book 2022 has seen itself realised in breathtaking pieces that may be traditional in concept, but are striking in the modernity of their execution. For the third and final release for Fall 2022, three flowers - wisterias, magnolias and orchids- take centrestage, along with some of the masterpieces created by Jean Schlumberger in the past.
