Like most Saint Laurent settings, the venue is at once grandiose and meditative. We are at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, here to witness the unveiling of the Spring/Summer ‘24 menswear collection from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. The space we inhabit tonight is stark and spacious, with materials and volumes that sing their beauty in a harmonious composition of steel and glass—a very archetypal Modernist signature associated with its legendary creator, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the fathers of modern architecture. First opened in 1968, the pavilion’s pared-down classicism reflects the embrace of its time yet through the decades, remains timeless. An icon of the old world, right at home in contemporary times.
