Forget the fresh food-aisle, sometimes freezer buys are just as healthy - and can save you money too
Fill up on FROZEN

Trying to eat healthily? Can't stomach the cost of fresh food? Despite what we're led to believe, you T don't actually need to be filling your basket with fresh fruit and veg to get those all-important nutrients. This is especially true of products that are cheaper and more nutritious when frozen, such as berries, broccoli and beans.

'Fresh foods destined for the freezer are harvested when they're at their ripest and often nutritionally at their best. Many vegetables are also briefly blanched in hot water prior to freezing to help retain nutrients for longer,' says Dr Tanja Harrison, a lecturer in public health nutrition at the University of Chester.

So, yes - you can boost your winter immunity, stay healthy and save those pennies. Here's how.

DID YOU KNOW? Frozen fruit and veg count towards your 5-a-day (80g = 1 portion)
