The next generation of furniture designers were on display at the 2022 Design Emphasis, the biennial student design competition exhibition held in conjunction with last summer’s International Woodworking Fair IWF) in Atlanta, GA.

Rebecca Juliette-Deux (Haywood Community College) Tea Towel Cart

This national competition is open to students enrolled in accredited undergraduate furniture design or wood products courses, and it recognizes outstanding marketability by awarding over 10,000 in prizes. This summer’s competition attracted students representing 23 colleges and universities from across the country, and 48 finalists were selected to display their work at IWF for final judging.

Best of Show went to Rebecca Juliette-Deux of Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC for her Tea Towel Cart. This piece was made with thermally modified Ash, and featured a removable glass top tray, center wooden tray, and fixed bottom with handwoven textile cotton, wool, and metallic thread).
