JUST breathe...

In the noisy labyrinth of modern-day living, creating relaxing spaces that exude a sense of calm has never been more important

JUST breathe...

When designing your home, you want to tell a story that is as unique as you are. Places that reflect the things you love to do and those that make you feel refreshed and energised. Your home is your oasis, so crafting spaces where you can unwind from external stressors and replenish your energy is essential.

From reading nooks to libraries, yoga rooms, relaxed living rooms and zen exterior spaces with lashings of laid-back ambience, creating beautiful stress-free zones can really boost the feel-good factor of your dwelling.

The global pandemic saw a dramatic shift in the way we live. Many found solace at home and created spaces that offered comfort. Christian Grennan from Kreis Grennan Architecture says COVID-19 has heralded a new age of "being" within our homes. "We are seeing clients wanting a place to feel safe and which works for how they live, spaces where they feel in control of the chaotic world beyond, and personal spaces that are comfortable and beautiful," he says. "This is just continuing what we've always done, but our clients are becoming more spatially and materially literate and as a consequence, more engaged in how the design helps shape their lives."

YOUR SLICE OF PARADISE

Furnishing and decorating a home with spaces that reflect relaxed living involves many factors. According to Jordan Pearson, marketing manager of Oz Design Furniture, the colours you choose can make all the difference when transforming your space into a sanctuary. "The most important consideration would be the colour palette of the overall room," she explains. "Think neutrals and earthy tones such as moss green, soft browns, off-white and touches of grey to create a sense of calm and a tranquil aura in a room."
