The result? A relaxed, contemporary and charmingly tactile setting for a memorable festive celebration
SUSPENDED TREASURE
This unique version of a Christmas “tree” is inspired by the handmade mobiles we all created as youngsters, and will add a very personal and whimsical feel to your space. Combining foraged shells, beach pebbles and seaside fl otsam and jetsam with a simple spray-painted dried tree branch, it’s also a cinch to make.
To make a similar hanging decoration, select a multi-stemmed dried branch with delicate leaves from the garden – or forage for a suitable fallen specimen – and spray-paint in white. Allow to dry fully before attaching white spraypainted beach treasures using plain, undyed string. The look is meant to be rustic, so don’t try to hide the ends of the string or keep things too neat.
Hang your decorated centrepiece above the space where gifts are to be exchanged to add to the magical, festive feel.
Create a cosy atmosphere by layering seating areas with touch-me textures such as linen slipcovers, pure cotton or wool throws and soft sheepskins.
Blended beauty
Wreaths are quintessentially Christmassy – we suggest making several and deploying them with abundance throughout the house to add to the festive atmosphere. Whether placed on a window sill or bedside table, hung from doors, or used as part of the table decorations, they instantly add a celebratory touch.
Select fine-leafed plants when recreating this delicate look. When working with very fine dried leaf sprigs, always spray-paint first. Once the sprigs are completely dry, create your wreaths and other decorations.
