When Val Fell began travelling the world over half a century ago, it took her five weeks in a rickety ship to reach her destination. Today, she can be transported from her home in Wollongong, NSW, to a speaking engagement in New York within a matter of seconds thanks to Zoom!
The 93-year-old is working to break down the stigma of dementia as an ambassador for older Australians. She is also the country’s oldest student, studying a Bachelor of Dementia Care at the University of Tasmania, via remote learning.
“When I was told I was the oldest student in Australia I thought it was funny,” Val tells New Idea. “My son says that I have only one pace and that’s go.”
