BARBARA'S MUM CREATED THE ICONIC DOLL, WHO NOW HAS A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE!

Like most young girls, Barbara Handler Segal loved playing with dolls growing up – but she never imagined that one day the most famous of them all, Barbie, would be named in her honour!

“It is very strange to have a doll named after you,” Barbara, now 82, admits.

Barbara’s mother, Ruth Handler created Barbie in 1959 as she wanted her daughter and other girls to aspire to want more. Up until then, girls only had infant dolls to nurture, or flimsy paper dolls.
