WHAT YOU SEE ISN'T ALWAYS WHAT YOU GET WITH THIS STAR
Jodie Foster I'M A MASS OF CONTRADICTIONS'

Some people are just born to perform and Jodie Foster is one of them. The two-time Oscar winner says the need to act has been in her "blood" for as long as she can remember, which likely explains why she's busier than ever!

Fresh off her acclaimed performance in Nyad, the former child star is now taking the lead in True Detective: Night Country, the fourth season of the gritty crime series. Here, Jodie, 61, tells New Idea about the show, and why people often have the wrong impression of her...

Tell us about your character in True Detective.

I play Elizabeth Danvers, the chief of police of Ennis Police in Alaska. I would describe her as cynical. I think she's hardened, oblivious, self-absorbed and she says mean comments to people without realising it. She's pretty tough, but she's a great detective. That's the part of her that I appreciate the most.
