WITH the most vocal section of England fans immediately behind him during the second half in Gelsenkirchen, Jordan Pickford could hear it all.
The jeering, the swearing, the insults aimed at Gareth Southgate as the Three Lions struggled against Slovakia on Sunday.
Time was running out and there were precious few signs of an England equaliser - in fact, Slovakia had missed a golden second-half chance to double their lead.
When Ivan Toney was brought on deep into stoppage time, supporters told Southgate he did not know what he was doing.
The rest is history.
No member of the squad has a stronger rapport with the fans than Pickford and he understands their frustration.
But the goalkeeper has tried to explain some of the difficulties England are experiencing on the pitch while asking the huge travelling support to have patience.
