According to a survey, 2.3 million wish they had someone to spend time with over the festive season. And 1.6 million say that December 25 is the hardest day of the year.
Dame Joanna is calling for more help to tackle the hidden emergency.
The Absolutely Fabulous actress, 78, said: "Christmas is such a special time for so many of us. But imagine not having anybody to even say hello to.
"It can be such an isolating and lonely period for so many older people. But Age UK is doing everything it can to help stop this.
