Protecting women and girls under Labour plans 'will be a nightmare'

KEMI Badenoch has warned that Labour's plans to make it easier for people to legally change gender will be a "nightmare" in protecting girls and women.

The Equalities Minister said the proposals will create more loopholes for "predators" to exploit and allow them to "infiltrate" single-sex spaces.

Writing in the Daily Express today, she cautioned that transactivists who promote self identification where a person can officially change their gender without any medical assessment would be "emboldened".

Ms Badenoch said: "If we surrender our country to Labour, we will create a safeguarding nightmare for trans people as well as women and girls.

"Keir Starmer's plan to simplify the process by which people can change their gender shows, yet again, the Labour Party does not care about the real impact of their policies, just on virtue-signalling to activist groups like Stonewall.

"Labour's proposal will water down the safeguards that prevent bad-faith actors taking advantage of the gender recognition process.

"It risks creating a loophole for predators to infiltrate women only spaces." Labour ruled out introducing self-identification last year following a public outcry when rapist Isla Bryson, who changed gender jailed while awaiting trial, was initially in Scotland's only all female prison.
