MALO GUSTO insists that Chelsea's incomparable competition for places is only a positive because: "Otherwise we will die."
French defender Gusto has become Enzo Maresca's firstchoice right-back instead of club captain Reece James.
But the head coach (with Gusto, above) faces a difficult task of keeping a host of attacking talents happy.
Neither Noni Madueke nor Joao Felix appeared best pleased by his substitutions in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
Gusto, however, is convinced the wealth of options will prove hugely beneficial late in the season when rivals are exhausted. And he says the battle for minutes can push everyone to new heights.
"The people don't under-i stand that," he said.
"It is very important to have a lot of players with qualities.
