A FRUSTRATED Lando Norris felt one split-second mistake cost him a second career F1 win in Barcelona.

Max Verstappen took victory from the hard-charging Briton by a little over two seconds, but McLaren's strategy gamble almost paid off.

They pitted later than Red Bull to give Norris a tyre advantage at the end. But he just ran out of laps to challenge the championship leader.

And the narrow margin made Norris' mistake at the very start of the race look all the more costly.

The 24-year-old began on pole but dropped to third by the first corner as a poor launch allowed Verstappen and George Russell, who briefly held the lead, to sweep past.

Norris lost several seconds stuck behind Russell after Verstappen had passed the Mercedes driver and, after taking the chequered flag, fumed at himself for the error.

"I should have won, I f***ed up the start," he complained over the radio.
