HOPPING mad beer lovers want the next government to call time on frothy pints.Sick of drinkers being short-measured, the Campaign for Real Ale wants a 100% liquid pint in pubs enshrined in law.Current guidance says beer with a foamy head has to be at least 95% liquid.Last month, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute found 86% of pints were shortmeasured, losing the average beer drinker £88.40 a year.Camra's Gillian Hough called the findings worrying and added: "We need to give people back that confidence to go to the pub." She said they will pursue the 100% liquid pint "as soon as the next government is in place".The average pint now costs £4.80, 13% higher than a year ago, said the British Beer and Pub Association. But pubs' profit per pint is now just 12p.Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves said Labour will help pubs with business rates replaced by a fairer system and community right-to-buy powers to help save boozers. She hinted at keeping a beer duty freeze.
