The tree fairy lights, bought by Vina Shaddick from Woolworths in 1969, lit up for 54 years without a single bulb having to be replaced.
But Vina's son Ross Farr-Semmens, who inherited the £3 lights after his mum died six years ago, says they have now finally given up.
