Golden performances, stunning fightbacks and personal bests... Team GB gave it their all in Paris

THEY'VE HAUL BEEN AMAZING

THIS was an Olympic Games with a silver lining for Team GB.

There are some who say no one ever remembers who comes second, or third, or anywhere other than first.

That won't apply to Paris 2024.

We will remember Matthew Hudson-Smith, the 400m runner denied gold by 0.04 seconds three years after he contemplated suicide.

We will remember Katarina Johnson-Thompson, separated from the top step of the heptathlon podium by a handful of points after countless fightbacks from injury and adversity.

We will remember the tears of Noah Williams a double medallist here after he won silver with Tom Daley in the 10m synchronised diving, remembering his late coach Dave Jenkins, who died at such a tragically young age.

We will remember the journey of Adam Peaty, touched off by 0.02 seconds in the 100m breaststroke after his own struggle with mental health issues.

There is no escaping the fact that 14 gold medals is a disappointing tally.

Team GB - across the Olympics and Paralympics has benefited from almost £400million of government and National Lottery funds in the Paris cycle.
