Sneyd's kicking game is on point... but bizarre 'assist' is banned

TOP MARCS!

TRICKSTER Marc Sneyd had the last laugh as Salford completed a Super League double over title-chasers St Helens.

The England scrum-half was fuming after his bizarre try assist was ruled out in the first half.

Lining up a penalty goal, he instead kicked crossfield where Chris Atkin collected on the full and touched down.

But referee Jack Smith chalked off the audacious play, similar to Kevin Sinfield's cheeky kick for Leeds teammate Rob Burrow against Hull in 2005, which was also disallowed.

Rules state it must be a legitimate attempt at goal and it looked like costing Salford as Saints led late on.

But Chris Hankinson's brilliant 74th-minute try saw the hosts level - and ice-cool Sneyd was never going to miss with his match-winning conversion.
