£45M TAXI FOR THE NHS

CASH-STRAPPED health boards have spent more than £45million on taxis in just six years.

Figures show cabs were used to ferry staff, medicines and samples about.

The statistices, uncovered by Scottish Labour, come as the NHS struggles to cope with demand.

NHS Lothian spent £8.9million - the most of any board-while NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spent £7.8million.

NHS GGC spent £1.9million on staff cabs, £130,418 on taxis for prescriptions and nearly £8000 in relation to linen and laundry.
