"There's two or three things he needs to do," he said. "Firstly, rewrite the Budget as it's gone down like a lead balloon amongst people.
"I don't think the Budget has proved very popular.
My own view is taxes should have been imposed upon large landowners to bring in money from people who can really afford it.
"Secondly, he needs to make changes in the Cabinet and get some stronger characters in starting with Kate Forbes. Make her the deputy first minister and finance secretary." The SNP was approached for comment.
