Neil and Alison McLaughlin were discovered at Banff Road in Greenock on Friday.
Police say their deaths are unexplained and investigations are ongoing.
One neighbour told the Record: "They were a nice, quiet couple. It's very quiet around here but everyone knows each other to say hello to.
"They had recently become grandparents their daughter gave birth not long ago. My heart absolutely breaks for her and her wee one.
"It's awful at any time of year but especially after Christmas." They continued: &ldquo;It has been such a shock to hear something like this has happened so close." It's understood Alison, 53, worked at Costcutter in nearby Fife Road.
Police yesterday continued to stand guard outside the house shared by Alison and Neil, 57.
Neighbours told the Record four forensics teams were spotted coming and going from the property as officers investigated the crime scene.
DI Gordon Smith said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Neil and Alison. We are providing their families with specialist support.
