EASE OUR PAIN

THE daughter of a mum of seven who vanished without trace has welcomed moves to make life easier for families of missing people.

Patricia Duncan, then 51, who vanished from her home in Buckie, Moray, in November 2002, was declared dead a decade ago.

Her daughter Johan says outdated laws have seen families struggle to take control of finances after a disappearance - in some cases leading them to have loved ones declared dead while still hoping they will return. Now a new law is planned.

The legislation in the Judicial Factors Bill is intended to make the handling of missing people's estates easier.
