FOOTBALL LAD BREAKS NECK IN MATCH

A TEENAGE footballer may never walk again after breaking his neck while playing for his boys' team.

Declan McDonald, 16, was playing for Airdrie and Coatbridge Rovers when he was involved in an accidental collision with an opposition player on Saturday.

His neck was broken and his spinal cord damaged and he was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Unable to feel anything from the shoulders down, he had a 10-hour operation and now faces a battle to make a recovery.

His devastated team have provided updates on behalf of his family in a series of social media posts and a fundraising drive has been launched to help support the teenager.
