SCOTLAND is primed for a solar energy boom, with the cost of installing home panels set to plummet by more than 50 percent, industry insiders say.
Experts at solar price comparison website Otovo said they expected a panels price "crash" in the coming months due to European warehouses being massively overstocked.
It means, the firm said, solar panels would hit an "all-time low&nbsp;prices" towards the beginning of this year before bouncing back later in 2024 as supply and demand balances out.
It comes after 2023 saw a boom year for solar worldwide, with record capacity installed in the UK, EU and US - while China installed more panels than the&nbsp;rest of the world combined. But Otovo said there remained a staggering 80GW of panels in storage in Europe - enough to cover the previous two years' worth of installations.
And the price drop is expected at a time when the cost of gas and electricity could spike.
Andreas Thorsheim, founder and CEO of Norwegian firm Otovo,&nbsp;which operates in the UK, said: "Solar panels will hit all-time low prices. We expect declines of at least 50 percent for solar construction costs from the first quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024, and then approximately one percent decline per month from then on. There has never been a better time for households to invest in solar."
