KEELY HODGKINSON lived up to her billing as Queen of the track with 800metres domination and beamed: "That was absolutely incredible." The 22-year-old controlled the race from gun to tape as she finally ended a run of second-place finishes.

Driven on by heartbreak at the previous Games in Tokyo plus silvers in the two World Championships since, she was overcome with emotion as she crossed the finish line.

Hodgkinson said: "I have worked so hard for this over the last year and you can see how much it meant to me when I crossed the line. I can't believe I have finally done it. I am super happy." Hodgkinson hit halfway in a moderate 58.3 seconds.
