PEP GUARDIOLA has told Ilkay Gundogan he must place at earn his Manchester City after sealing his free transfer from Barcelona.
Gundogan, 33, has rejoined City just a year after leaving on a free from Barcelona.
But Guardiola says his former skipper must fight off all the midfield competition for a starting jersey.
He could be in the squad to face Ipswich at the Etihad after his first training session with City yesterday and Guardiola said: "Let me know how he behaves, trains and plays.
"If he doesn't perform well, we play another game and we have Phil [Foden], Kevin [De Bruyne], Bernardo [Silva], Rodri, [Mateo] Kovacic there.
