I WATCHED PAL SWEPT AWAY BY AVALANCHE

A MOUNTAINEERING expert watched in horror as his friend was swept 50ft down a mountain by an avalanche in the Highlands.

Alan Dorward, 57, was climbing munro Meall nan Tarmachan, north of Loch Tay, with his friend Saki Nakamura when disaster struck.

The pair had been "snow holing" - a survival technique created by digging into snow to create a shelter during wintry weather - but when Saki dug into the snow, she triggered an avalanche.

The experienced climber was swept down the mountain within seconds.
