JOHN MCENROE reckons Andy Murray cannot face retiring because he still loves the game.

The Scot has not reached a Grand Slam quarter-final in 12 attempts since Wimbledon 2017 before his two hip ops.

But the former world No.1, who turns 37 in May, began his latest bid early this morning against No.30 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first round of the Australian Open.

Injury-dogged Murray said before the start of the season: "If I'm not enjoying it it could be the last year, yes.

But he also claimed in his pre-tournament briefing to British tennis writers that he is "wired slightly differently" and believes he can keep getting better.

And Eurosport analyst McEnroe, who retired aged 33 at the end of the 1992 season when still ranked
