JACK DRAPER says he feels a duty to step up in Andy Murray's absence-after missing his "rancid, stinking shoes" at the first Slam post-retirement.

The 22-year-old faces a tricky first-round test when he launches his third US Open campaign against Chinese world No.41 Zhizhen Zhang in New York tomorrow.

Murray won the junior title at Flushing Meadows in 2004 and his first Grand Slam crown eight years later. And world No.25 Draper said: "I do miss his presence a lot.

"It seems a bit weird not having Andy there with his rancid, stinking shoes lying next to me in the locker room!
