THE Lord Advocate has apologised for the role of Scotland's prosecution service in the Horizon scandal.

Dorothy Bain KC hit out at the Post Office for providing false information leading to the conviction of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses.

She told MSPs prosecutors the Crown Office had been "repeatedly misled" by the Post Office over the miscarriage of justice.

More than 900 people were prosecuted across the UK after faulty software wrongly made it look like they had stolen money.

Prosecutions were the Crown Office's responsibility in Scotland with the information leading to convictions provided by the Post Office.
