His move to Celtic ensured the midfielder was a SPL title winner just in time to help Denmark reach the quarter-finals of the 1998 World Cup finals, where they lost 3-2 to Brazil.

The 52-year-old has been assistant manager to Kasper Hjulmand for the Danish national team since 2020 and the pair are preparing for Euro 2024.

Scottish football is never off Wieghorst's radar, with Celtic star Matt O'Riley given his Denmark debut last November. And another Dane is on the scene after Hibs recruited Emiliano Marcondes on loan from Bournemouth two weeks ago.
