A SAMPLE of mould used by Sir Alexander Fleming to produce penicillin has sold for a record £58,500.

The specimen of yellow-green Penicillium Notatum fungus on a glass disc dates back to when the famous Scots physician was working on his groundbreaking 1928 discovery.
